Chokladboll (literally "chocolate ball") is a popular Swedish pastry.

The chokladboll is usually slightly smaller than a golfball. The chokladboll consists ofoatmeal, sugar, coffee, cocoa, butter, and sometimes a pinch of vanilla sugar, which is mixed to a compact mass. Balls are formed and then rolled in nib sugar, shreddedcoconut, or sprinkles. Chokladboll can be eaten immediately, but it is usually first placed in the refrigerator for about an hour or in the freezer for those who prefer a harder variety. Because of its simple recipe, it can be quickly made by anyone and is popular at children's parties and as homemade candy.

Fika is both a Swedish verb and noun (pronounced "fee-ka") that roughly means "to drink coffee/tea/squash," usually accompanied by something sweet.

Fika is a social institution in Sweden; it means having a break, most often a coffee break, with one's colleagues, friends, date, or family. The word "fika" can serve as both a verb and a noun. Swedes consider having a coffee an important part of the culture. You can fika at work by taking a “coffee break,” fika with someone like a “coffee date,” or just drink a cup of coffee.

As such, the word has quite ambiguous connotations, but always including something to eat accompanied by a drink, such as cookies, cakes and even candy. This practice of taking a break, typically with a cinnamon rollor some biscuits or cookies, or sometimes a smörgås or a fruit on the side, is central to Swedish life, and is regularly enjoyed even by the government... I'm a bit of a kitchen nerd... I love cooking and with that new kitchen things - all from new knives to handy mixers....

I adore my kitchen knives from Laguiole and browsing around their website - there are new designs! Nice!

I really like the metal / steel ones...

I can't live without my Nespresso coffee maker - I do need to invest in a new milk brother though....

My Kitchen Aid and I have a very special relationship!

Pots and pans is very important in my kitchen - not only do I think they have to look good - they also have to work for a long time! I've had Ittala's all steel for a while

Let it snow!

As every year - the city of London shuts down, when it snows!

I really, really love the snow - as a Swede, this feels like home. The big difference is that in Sweden, things works as usual... here, the city goes quiet, everything stops - no flights, no tube, no cars, no people out on the streets... This metropolitan, large, world city just can't do snow!
On the radio stations you can hear all about how to prepare for the snow, for the cold and the shut down of the town...

The snow brings a silence, a warmth (0 degrees without snow here is freezing cold - with snow, it is fantastic!), a cotton filled happiness...

To wake up tomorrow will be interesting - though it is really snowing at the moment and by tomorrow morning the shops and all communication will be shut off...

I just checked our fridge, and we do have a pint of milk, some yoghurts, bread, Swedish "Prince sausages", a lot of cheese and Italian salami! That will be our breakfast, lunch and dinner for tomorrow - though all shops will probably be closed...

The kids will be so excited when they wake up though - and Cashie, the labrador, has just been outside to check on the "not so normal surface" in the garden!

DIY Houses by Night

I stumbled onto these DIY candle light houses here. I think they look amazing!

you can make them yourself - with your choice of favourite buildings!

I will try this out - pictures to come!

How to make them:

Step 1: You want to start cutting and finish cutting at around the same height on either side of your picture. Use the scissors to cut straight in to where your house begins, cut around the top of the house, and cut straight back out to the edge at around the same height as you cut in.

Step 2: Trim away any other areas you don’t want, but don’t trim the sides yet.
Step 3: Using your Xacto knife and a cutting mat, carefully cut out any windows you want the light to shine through.

Step 4: Wrap the image into a cylinder (size is up to you) and sticky tape it together. Trim around the top if it doesn’t quite match, as well as any excess where you joined it.
Step 5: Add your battery operated tea light, and wait until it gets dark!

Note: Because paper (of course) is highly flammable, the use of battery operated candles over real ones is imperative. However, if you would rather use real candles, try wrapping the image around the outside of a small glass jar and use that to hold your candle (but still keep an eye on it) :)

Light in my garden!

I would love a garden chandelier. I have a large glass candle holder that I brought back from Marrakech years ago - but now I've set my mind on a proper garden chandelier! They are stunning - and make a real statement and nice feel in the garden.

If I can't have my gypsy wagon in the back garden - I will have a chandelier! ( a bit cheaper and less space consuming...)

A bit Ot from the chandeliers - but the below string balls can be made by you - I just couldn't find the information on how to make them - I will search a bit more and pots it - but don't they look great!

Asiana Bridal Show 2012

This weekend me and my friend Emma went to the Asiana Bridal show - and I could have stayed forever (if it wasn't as crowded as it was). It was amazing! Stunning, breath taking - like stepping right into a fairytale (asian one!).

We got tickets through a mum at school - that makes cakes... Gorgeous Cakes! Deelicious cakes are not only painstakingly hand-crafted works of art, but are also incredibly delicious (off course!). Every single one of her cakes are like a piece of art!

Well - we had a snoop around the fair - being 2 of the few non Asian girls there, and already married it was a bit odd - but lovely! I want to get married all over again - asian style!

Spring = colours

I want spring NOW!!! I'm kind of done with the cold weather, rain, grey skies....
Every year it is the same thing - I go colour mad when Christmas is over and January is coming to its end... I just want to have a white room - filled with colours.... Fresh colours! Happy colours!

I want to have summer flowers everywhere... I want my windows to be larger, I need more light, I really really want the spring to be in full bloom! Please Spring, come soooon!

I know nothing about flowers - except that I love them fresh... But my favourites is ranunculus and peonies... They come in gorgeous colours and they have this gorgeous vintage feel - with a fresh crisp look.. My wedding bouquet was filled with peonies.

The good old Bed and Breakfast in Britain has come a long way from its basic-place-to-lay-your-head-and-a-bit-of-toast-in-the-morning origins. Outstanding interior design and gastro pub hotspots, Bed and Breakfasts in the UK have gone designer. Searching around - I found some real gems... I want to visit all of them. If any of you do - please tell me!

Thinking about that - maybe I should that myself for a London weekend - at a designer B&B....

The Zetter Townhouse, London

“Taxidermy, eclectic antiques and opulence battle for space with street art, mid-20th century retro classics and an abundance of lavish fabrics – all perfectly balanced, all perfectly outlandish.”

Forty Winks: In an ideal world, the term "hidden gem" would be reserved exclusively for gems as wonderful and as hidden as this one. Owned by David Carter, an interior designer with an international reputation, this four-storey Queen Anne townhouse is tucked away unnoticed on the busy Mile End Road.

The step to a boutique hotel is not far.... So I checked some of them out as well....

A stone's throw from Shoreditch High Street. The Boundary was launched and created in 2008 by Peter Prescott and Terence Conran, so look out for some of the best contemporary design on show.

There are twelve individually designed rooms and five suites to choose from, although the bespoke furniture, colourful artwork and restored industrial features that fill each room makes it tough to pick a favourite. Don't miss: The olive tree lined rooftop and the in-house bakery.

As you might know - I have a huge love for typography, letters, words... So, why not ad it to the home? Chunky, three-dimensional aluminum letter-shaped side tables from Andrew Martin - me like!...See the rest of the alphabet here.

Swiss company Set 26, the specialist in storage furniture design, allows you to place storage in the form of letters, bringing more typography into the home or office.

This is ‘La Dresser’, made by Wary Myers using an old set of drawers and revamped them.

Tabisso, a design company based in France. They have created this stunning set of Typographic Furniture. The set of chairs represent A-Z and numbers 1-9, the set of floor lamps covers over 20 punctuation marks. I might need to shorten the company name in order to fit these in...

Finnish by design Kayiwa (Go Scandi!), the Alphabetic Bookshelf is cute over functional - but gorgeous!

House Industries and Herman Miller are producing a limited edition series of 80 Eames wire-base tables (aka an LTR or Low Table Rod) that include A thru Z, numbers and ornaments from the Eames Century Modern font collection. Though they were launched in september 2011 - I'm guessing there isn't one left for me....?

Trash the dress

Trash the dress is sweeping the nation, and is bang on trend. From boudoir photography, before your big day, to trash the dress, which is a fantastic way to re-use your dress after your wedding.

Just look at the amazing photos - In my mind, much more exciting that the traditional wedding photos. I would have done this for sure - if it was available at the time I got married (like 100 years ago!)!

I could get married again, just to do this!!! I love it!

I'm fascinated about the gypsy weddings - they sure know how to make a (big) dress....

I'm Swedish and with that more of a "hockey girl"... I find football a bit dull. But - I'm kind of fond of half naked good looking footballers... Proud to be Swedish as I discovered that we have a few nice exports / contributions:

We spend like 95% of our time awake in the kitchen area - so, I assume this part of the house should be the most exciting!

I am totally fascinated by tango - so passionate, so strong - perfection!

Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace have dazzled television audiences for six series of the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing with their stunning Tango routines.

Running away with the gypsies

Yes, I know. I have nowhere to put a "gypsy wagon" / roulette. But one day I might (will) have a large backyard! Yes, I know. These may be a bit too expensive for us right now. But one day there might be some disposable income - just to spend on this (including a bigger house with a high garden...)!

I just love them.

Ok, I'm suspending my sense of reality right now and jumping right in to the delusion that we might have a place for a real gypsy wagon in the garden..... These gypsy wagons have carried me off on a cloud of fancy, and right now, can't be even a bit concerned about their practicality...

Maybe I should convince the family to go on a Roulette holiday in France this summer....

What a chandelier can add to a room ... it's truly amazing! I wouldn't be opposed to a chandelier (or two or three) in every single room.

When storing away Christmas, I could't bare to pack down our gorgeous bird decorations I used in the tree... so I added them and bought some old crystals on Ebay to "pimp" my gorgeous candle / pearl chandelier. I think it looks amazing and each time I see it - it makes me happy! What do you think?

Searching the internet - I found some really gorgeous bejewelled and creative ones!

Quirky décor

This fabulous kitchen/dining area is found in Kathleen Hackett and Stephen Antonson's home,Brooklyn, N.Y. They are the authors of the how-to book "Home From the Hardware Store" and they certainly have a different approach to decorating. They use flea market and yard sale finds and make lot of pieces themselves from hardware store goods - like a candelabra from plumbing parts. I am just in love with their fresh approach of interior design!

Their dining table is very innovative - it is made of 2-by-2 boards and fitted with roller shades, which can be pulled down to turn it into a fort. How cool is that!

Their home is just so genius, homely, gorgeous and unique.

Studio Ditte has an extraordinary wallpaper collection. From sturdy scrap wood wallpaper to wallpaper with lovely birdhouses. Besides wallpaper, Studio Ditte also has beautiful interior accessories.

As I used to work and design wallpapers and know how hard it is to find the right ones - even though there are millions of designs out there. This is a pure find! I just adore the style and their designs!
The Paper robots and the paper bird houses are to die for.... ohhh I love paper as much as they do!

This is a spectacular 1560’s L Plan castle with a Georgian wing attached. It has a
world-renowned Great Hall with an unusual vaulted heraldic ceiling, a drawing room and a large

ibride's Bird Trays

From swan portraits to technicolor squirrels, i deeply dig the french design team of ibride (pronounced e-breed) for continuously creating amazing lines of intricate and gorgeously designed trays.

They are using a century old technique, which applies high pressure laminate to a recycled wood core, Ibride produces picturesque platters that are sturdy enough for serving and divine enough for display.

Eco-friendly, functional, fanciful, and french. what's not to love?

They are printed on a photo quality satin paper stock and comes with poster hangers for top and bottom of the print - so you just have to add a ribbon or string and then hang it on the wall.

Two new designs - one with stack of magazines and the other one with stack of books. They look great in a hallway - or a living room - actually in any room with a spare wall - as a cool feature!

This dapper rabbit is part of the Chalk-It-To-Me series - zoo of chalkboard-coated creatures. These ceramic figurines are just yearning for their new owners to decorate them as fancy or plainly as they please.

What a refreshing urban take on something traditional! It sounds exciting!

In his raw street dance interpretation of the classic fairy tale Swan Lake, the story is moved to the present day and Tchaikovsky's original score meets newly composed music.

Sorcery and supernatural occurrences are replaced by drugs and the swans are prostitutes. In the struggle between good and evil, the desire for drugs and love plays a central role. Can love break the spell, just like in the original saga?

Christmas

is here, in a few days, for real!

Soon we will all be gathered at ours! I'm really looking forward to see my family - and to spend some more time with the kids!

This Christmas has been fantastic! I have really enjoyed the crazy period - but, now I'm ready to take some time off. This means: Spending time with my kids and family, eating fabulously good food (Mum - I know we will make magic in the kitchen!), catching up of all exciting exhibitions in London (V&A The house of Annie Lennox, is the first stop!), chill in', posting Christmas cards (after Christmas...), creating new designs, working on exciting collaborations and getting some new really cool retailers started!

Stay tuned! There is plenty more to come! I'm looking forward to 2012!

Today is is Lucia in Sweden.
That is one of the traditions I really miss from home. The celebration of Lucia is a beautiful one - it is all about the light! A bit odd to non Swedes maybe... with people dressed in white long gowns, candles in the hair, tall funny hats, gingerbread fancy dresses....

13th December every year is the celebration of St Lucia (or St Lucy) – a festival widely celebrated across Scandinavia. Girls dress in white robes and carry candles in a long procession and sing the hymn about Lucia. The candles symbolise the fire that refused to take St. Lucia's life when she was sentenced to be burned. Traditionally a Catholic festival, it is thought that this tradition survived in Scandinavia because it is celebrated during the very dark days of winter. Some people believe that back in the day when us Scandies celebrated Yule (or Jol) at Winter Solstice, it was both a season of giving, kindness and celebration - but also a season of fear of dark forces – the scariest night of all at that time was called the Night of Lussi – Lussinatta. Some believe that the festival of light is from this time to fend off the evil forces.

I actually love Christmas! I think mostly due to that you are with family and friends, you have a few days of work and you have made your home into a cosy dungeon - with candles, lovely smells, happy decorations!

...only if... I had more time! I would go mad about decorating the house... I would the Martha Stewart of all Christmases...
